After launching Book of Destiny, our very first game built around a classic structure, we knew our next step needed to be bolder. Not just in theme or visual style, but in the way the game felt to play. We wanted mechanics that pulsed with energy, and features that offered a more dynamic relationship between the player and the game. That moment arrived with our second release, Crystal Golem.
This slot marked a decisive shift in our direction as a studio, moving us from familiar genre frameworks into something of our own: feature-driven gameplay with a distinct mathematical personality.
At the centre of the game is our SuperSpinners™ mechanic. It challenged the traditional notion of line wins by giving them the power to explode unpredictably. Winline through a SuperSpinner? You might get a 2x multiplier. Or a 400x one. And if you hit a cascade? The momentum snowballs. Suddenly, a single spin isn’t just a spin, it’s a chain reaction waiting to happen. That was a turning point for us; designing features that don’t just exist, but evolve during gameplay.
The Free Spins round takes that evolution literally. Land three Crystal Scatters, and the Wild Golem enters the stage. These aren’t your standard Wilds. When they come into contact with Empowered Spinners, they evolve, gaining persistence with each new stage.
We also layered in a retrigger mechanic that rewards board development. Upon upgrading each reel at least once, it awards the player with +4 spins, and for a second time, another +4. It’s a subtle shift, but it pushes player attention toward the state of the game, not just its outcomes; something we’ve continued to refine in later releases.
To this day, this slot still holds a special place for us, especially for our CEO, Carl Wiggman, who counts the Crystal Golem among his favourite characters from our universe.
If Book of Destiny was our foundation, Crystal Golem was our first architectural statement. A game that told us we didn’t just want to build slots that look good, we wanted to build slots that think differently, spin differently, and stay with players long after the reels stop.
