Rotten Potato Backstory

Rotten Potato Backstory

The Kingdom of Potato was once a land of golden fields, magnificent castles, and harvests so plentiful that nobody ever went hungry. For generations, the royal family ruled over a prosperous kingdom where every autumn was celebrated with extravagant feasts. But when a mysterious blight began destroying the crops, the kingdom's fortunes quickly turned. Desperate to save his reign, the King ordered his gardeners to search for anything that might restore the dying fields.

Deep beneath the palace gardens, they discovered an ancient fungus growing around the remains of a long-forgotten potato. Its roots pulsed with an unnatural green glow, and the surrounding soil was impossibly fertile. Ignoring the warnings of his royal botanists, the King ordered the fungus to be cultivated across the kingdom. The results were miraculous. Crops sprang from the earth overnight, growing larger and faster than ever before. There were a few peculiarities, of course. The potatoes occasionally twitched, strange flowers bloomed in darkness, and the soil seemed to breathe. But with the kingdom's fortunes restored, nobody paid much attention.

To celebrate, the royal family hosted the grandest harvest banquet in history. The tables overflowed with freshly grown potatoes, and the nobility feasted until they could barely stand. Then the coughing began. Clouds of glowing spores filled the hall as the guests underwent horrifying transformations. Their skin decayed, their eyes burned green, and grotesque fungal growths erupted from their bodies. Queen Mashonne, Duchess Dawnita, and the rest of the royal court became monstrous versions of their former selves. The King suffered the worst transformation of all, emerging as the grotesque King Cordyceps III, a twisted monarch whose crown had fused with his infected flesh.
The infection soon spread beyond the palace walls. The Spreading Fungus crept through fields and villages, transforming everything it touched into something unrecognisable. Entire patches of healthy crops mutated without warning, while the fallen rose again to join the ever-growing Potato Horde. The kingdom's mighty SuperSpinners™, once magnificent machines that powered the royal harvest, became corrupted by the fungus, spinning with unnatural energy that grew stronger as the plague spread. What had begun as a miraculous harvest had become a full-blown potato apocalypse.

Deep within the ruined palace, the original Rotten Potato had grown into something far more sinister. Rooted at the heart of the kingdom, the monstrous creature continued to unleash its infection, corrupting everything drawn into its reach. Each new outbreak left more of the kingdom permanently infected, feeding the plague and strengthening the power of the SuperSpinners™. With every passing day, King Cordyceps III's rotten empire grew larger, and the prospect of containing the Potato Plague became increasingly hopeless.

Yet the royal celebrations continue. The banquet tables remain set, the halls echo with the shuffling of undead nobility, and King Cordyceps III still considers his miraculous harvest a tremendous success.
After all, the kingdom has never had so many mouths to feed.

The harvest is rotten. The kingdom is lost. And the dead are hungry.

Long live the rot.
